The Gang

We have been so blessed by our dear Lubbock friends this semester! Whether we're watching a Tech or Cowboys game, eating at Dion's every Thursday before watching The Office together or celebrating a birthday (we did that a lot in the last few weeks) we always had such a blast! We're so sad that Preston and Shelbi have now moved on to bigger and better things to Dallas - you will be missed! But, I almost never thought I would say this, I'm excited to go back to Lubbock in January! God is so good and always provides for our needs in His perfect timing. Here are a few fun pics:

We've especially LOVED getting to know our precious neighbors this year! Chris, Denae and their little boy, Will. (I'm not really sure why, but I don't have any pictures with them :( we need to get some! But you can see them at her blog.) They are wonderful and we've been so spoiled to have such incredible, Godly friends as neighbors. They may be moving to a new house in Lubbock soon, which is really sad! We'll definitely be taking advantage of walking across the street to hang out with them as much as possible before the big moving day. I pray that our neighbors in Amarillo will be half as wonderful as the Hutsons! I mean, they even watch Gunner when we're gone! That's gotta say something! ;)

13.1 miles

We did it. After training for more than 4 months, the Mason's have now run two half-marathons this fall. In November we ran one in Lubbock (actually in Ransom Canyon) with only about 100 other runners- most of whom were running the 5k. After the first four miles or so, we were pretty much running by ourselves since everyone had spread out. It was a great run, but it didn't really feel like a race. More like a 13.1 mile run just for the fun of it... which is not exactly my favorite way to spend a Saturday morning :). Not to mention we had to run some of the steepest, longest hills I've ever seen, but we made it!

still smiling at the finish

so proud of my hubby! i could never do it without him.

Last weekend, Dec. 14th, we ran another half at the Dallas White Rock Half-Marathon. I wish I had pictures to show for it.... but you'll just have to believe me when I say it was awesome! About 17,000 people ran in the race to benefit Scottish Rite Children's Hospital. It was completely different than the Ransom Canyon run. The starting line was a party with music playing, confetti, fire works and a jet fly over! Each mile marker of the race had a band - yes, mile 1 band was a handbell chior playing christmas songs - but the majority of the bands were loud, encouraging and motivational! There were people running with us the entire way and TONS of people cheering along the sides for 13.1 miles. We would even hear people cheering for us by name, since our names were printed above the numbers we wore. We got pretty tired in the middle of the race but just kept repeating, "We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us," to the rythym of our pace. The Lord gave us strength and we finished with smiles on our faces! What a blast!

We've now run three half-marathons in 2008! (I think I need to mention that Mark's 08 new year resolution was to become a runner.... I think he did just that!)

Thanksgiving in Branson

We had so much fun with everyone in Branson for Thanksgiving! Granny, Papa, Aunt Holly, Uncle Trent, Aimee & Kyle, Anna and Taylor all drove up from Baton Rouge and we made the 11 hour drive from Lubbock. It was well worth it!

Some of the highlights: best fried turkey we've ever had thanks to dad and Uncle Trent, and an incredible Thanksgiving dinner, as always. annual thanksgiving day stroll. getting to see the new doulos building (it's so beautiful!!). silver dollar city- always a highlight! sweet kristen cooper getting engaged! yay. can't wait for her wedding on March 7. mark and eric hitting the stores at midnight on thanksgiving night. the girls shopped til we dropped the rest of the day! what a blast. watching the lsu/arkansas game- Granny (along with everyone else) sure got a little heated! anna heading off to KC just in time to get a stomach bug. watching james bond at the imax. singing christmas carols/roasting smores on the back patio. snow flurries!

Can't wait to see everyone again after Christmas. We are so thankful to have such a wonderful family.
